APJ Abdul Kalam Biography:- Avul Plair Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam was an Indian aerospace scientist. Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was also known as the Missile Man of India. The scientist was born on May 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. He studied physics and aeronautical engineering in Rameswaram only. The famous man was the eleventh President of India and served as India’s President for five years (2002 to 2007). Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam will always be remembered because of his achievements and innovations. The famous and great personality left the world on July 27, 2015, in Shillong. The reason for his death was cardiac arrest. He was an important part of the development of India’s missile and nuclear weapons program. He was given many awards such as Bharat Ratna and India’s highest civilian honor.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born in a Tamil Muslim family in Tamil Nadu. His father named Jainulabdeen was a boat owner and was an imam of a local mosque. The mother of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Ashiamma, was a housewife. The kalam had four brothers and one sister and he was the youngest. After the opening of the Pamban Bridge, the family of kalam suffered huge losses. At a very young age, he used to sell newspapers to support his family financially.

Abdul Kalam Educational Background

In the school, the APJ Abdul Kalam used to be an average student but was very hard-working. He was a student who had a strong desire to learn something new. With time he developed a special interest in mathematics. As he was a hardworking child, he used to study for long hours. He did his early education at Schwartz higher secondary school. For higher studies, he joined Saint Joseph’s College, Tiruchirapalli. Back in 1954, Kalam had done graduation in physics from saint college. Then in 1955, he decided to go to Madras to study aerospace engineering at the Madras Institute of Technology.

APJ Abdul Kalam Biography :- In 1960, after completing studies at the Madras Institute of Technology, kalam joined the aeronautical development establishment of DRDO as a scientist. He started his career by designing a small hovercraft but he was not satisfied with his choice of a job at the DRDO. After that, he worked under Vikram Sarabhai who was a very famous space scientist. In 1969, he joined ISRO and there he was the project director of India’s first satellite vehicle launch.

In the 1970s-90s, scientists got LV and Slv projects from the government. Kalam was appointed as chief executive of the Integrated guided missile development program. He played an important role in developing many missiles under missions Agni and Prithvi. From July 1992 to December 1999m the kalam was chief scientific advisor to the Prime minister and secretary of the defence research and development organization (DRDO). The scientist also played an intensive political and technological role at the time the Pokhran-II nuclear tests were conducted. During these tests, kalam became the best scientist in India.

In 2002, APJ Abdul Kalam became the 11th president of India and he served for 5 years from 25th July 2002 to 25th July 2007. He won the presidential election with a huge margin of votes. He was backed by Samajwadi Party and National Congress Party. The scientist had done many welfares works for the people of India. The president was very brave in taking the discussions. In 2005, he also imposed the President’s rule in Bihar.  After leaving the president’s office he started visiting as a professor at the Indian Institute of Management in Shillong. He also worked as an Aerospace Engineering professor at Anna University, Tamil Nadu. He was the chancellor Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram. Kalam launched a program named “What Can I Give?” in 2012.  The focus of the program was on removing corruption from the country.

Abdul Kalam Demise

APJ Abdul Kalam died at age of 83 when he was delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. On July 27, 2015, he was delivering a lecture and in between, he collapsed. He was taken to a nearby hospital and kept in ICU, but unfortunately, he died. The reason for death was cardiac arrest and the body of Kalam was airlifted from Shillong to Gugati. The body was wrapped in the Indian National flag.  More than 30000 people attended the funeral event. The body of Kalam was taken by air force helicopter to the town of Mandapam and from there in an Army truck it was taken to his hometown of Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.

Kalam’s full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam and he was born into a Tamil Muslim Family. The scientist was a vegetarian and was the first bachelor President of India.  Initially, the Autobiography of Kalam “Wings of Fire” was published in English, and after that published in 13 other languages also. He was one of the famous scientists of modern India. Kalam worked as a scientist for 4 decades and his work will be remembered always.
