MR Adani did not take over the textile business of his father. Back in 1978, he moved to Mumbai and worked as a diamond sorter for Mahendra Brothers. Gautam Adani has not worked too long with Mahendra Brothers. Adani always wants to start his own company. In 1981, his brother Mansukhbhai Adani started a plastics business and ask him to help to manage operations. This business opened the gates of opportunities for Adani’s entry into global trade through imports of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). After that in 1985, he began importing primary polymers for small-scale industries. Back in 1988, Adani founded Adani Exports which is now known as Adani Enterprises. In 90’s he expanded his business into trading of metals, textiles, and agro products.
In 1995, Adani was given Mundra Port contract and in the same year, he made the first Jetty. Then in the next year, he launched Adani power which has power plants of around 4620 capacity.
In 2006, Adani moved into the power generation business. Between 2009 to 2012, Gautam Adani bought Abbot Point Port in Australia and Carmichael coal mine in Queensland.
In May 2020, the businessman also won the world’s largest solar bid from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).
